For Newcomers
Everyone is invited to join us at Christ’s Church — all you need to do is step through the door (or click on the link). You will be warmly welcomed regardless of where (or whether) you’ve gone to church in the past. We are here to nourish and strengthen those familiar with our traditions, and to offer genuine hospitality and sanctuary to those who are not. Here are a few common questions:
However you found us - through a friend, a search, a Sunday morning you hadn't planned on, or something that happened recently that brought you through our doors - we're glad you're here.
Christ's Church is an Episcopal parish that has been part of the fabric of Rye since 1695. We take our history seriously and our welcome even more seriously. Whatever you believe right now, whatever questions you're carrying, whatever your history with church has been, there is a place for you here. You don't need to have it figured out. Neither do we.
What to Expect on a Sunday
We offer two services each Sunday morning, and they have distinct personalities.
8:00 am - Rite I is our traditional service. It uses Elizabethan language the church has been praying for centuries - formal, spare, and beautiful. It tends to draw people who love the cadences of ancient liturgy and prefer a quieter, contemplative start to the day. No music director, smaller gathering, usually about 45 minutes.
10:00 am - Contemporary Service is our larger, livelier gathering. Expect a full choir, a sermon, children present (and then dismissed to Sunday School unless it is our monthly Family Sunday), and a service that moves between ancient and modern with intention. This is where most of our families worship together.
Both services end with Holy Eucharist or communion. No matter where you are on your journey of faith, you are welcome at God's table.
You don't need to know what to do. The liturgy will carry you. Follow along, stand and sit when others do, and don't worry about getting it "right." Nobody will be watching.
Common Questions:
Can I talk to someone before I visit?
Of course. You can always talk to us. Call the office at 914-967-1749 or email Jannine Moran, our Business Operations Manager, at jmoran@ccrye.org and she will be in touch. You're also welcome to reach out to Father Matt directly at mstone@ccrye.org.
Can I learn about the rector?
Absolutely! Check out our Who We Are page.
Is there childcare?
Yes. During the 10am service, nursery care is available for children through age 4, staffed by thoroughly vetted and background-checked caregivers. Sunday School begins at age 5 and runs during the 10am service. Children are always welcome to remain in worship - the sounds of children are the future of the church!
What should I wear?
Whatever you're comfortable in. On any given Sunday you'll see everything from ties and dresses to jeans and quarter zips. Come as you are.
Is there parking?
You're Welcome Here
Yes, a parking lot just off the traffic circle, with additional street parking on Milton Road and Rectory Street.
