6:00 pm - A Festival of
Nine Lessons and Carols
(music beginning at 5:45 pm)
This uniquely Anglican service (which has become famous due to the
radio broadcasts of King's College, Cambridge) will be offered here at
Christ's Church Rye for the first time in many years. This service does
not include a sermon or communion. The Christ's Church Choir, along
with the Boy and Girl Choristers, will offer many of the favorite
carols of the season to illuminate the lessons.
11:00 pm - Choral Eucharist: Rite I
(music beginning at 10:30 pm)
The traditional
Midnight Mass of
Christmas will include readings from the King James Bible, a sermon by
the Rector, incense to heighten the solemnity of the night, and choral
music by the Christ's Church Choir.
The service also
features the singing of "Silent Night", illuminated by candlelight.
