Caritas of Port Chester provides families in need with donations of food and other assistance from emergency services to daily meals. A Choice Pantry provides as many as 1200 families annually with the opportunity to select designated quantities of nutritious canned, dry, fresh and frozen food based on the size of the household. Christ's Church is and has been a dedicated sponsor, providing financial and volunteer support, as well as frequent Cheerios Sunday donations to help Caritas meet both the ongoing needs of families and individuals living below the poverty level, and the occasional needs of those encountering rough times.

In July of 2016, Caritas of Port Chester relocated from Don Bosco Place to St. Peter's Church, closer to the village center, where it can benefit from a larger cafeteria providing the ability to have more of a community dining experience when serving daily breakfast and lunch. The new location also provides easier access for a growing percentage of its clientele, which has grown over the years from a small contingent on the south side of the village to residents from nearly all of Port Chester and parts of Rye Brook, Harrison, Rye and Byram, CT.

While the Choice Pantry includes a large selection of groceries, it provides only a fraction of the total requirements for a family each month, and on average, most families only rely on the pantry two to four times a year, with the winter months being the most demanding. Individuals must register to be eligible to receive and they may do so at the time of their visit, providing name, address, number of adults, children and elderly in the household being served and an indication of their need.

At Caritas, the mission is to feed the hungry, but the method is through sharing the love and joy that is a ministry for all of us.

At Caritas, volunteers are part of the family and are always welcome. Whether you sign up as a sous chef, helping to prepare meals, or as a pantry assistant, helping to sock and distribute groceries, or as a personal shopper, helping clients to select the items they need, your help and commitment are needed and most appreciated. Most positions can be structured on a scheduled one-day-a-week or a one-day-a-month basis, and there are special community service projects and programs for students.
