As we have more and more newcomers joining our parish, and
some of us "old-timers" are sometimes unsure of why we do the things we do
during worship, we are starting an occasional series of questions and answers
about worship at Christ’s Church. These will be published in our monthly
newsletter, as well as added to this web site. If you’d like to pose a question
please email it to with "Worship FAQs" in the subject line, or drop
it in the church office, and we’ll try and answer it for you in a future
newsletter.
Q. Are we still having Morning Prayer?
A. Yes, twice a month.
Q. What if I'd rather have the Eucharist?
A. You still can. There is a Eucharist immediately following Morning
Prayer on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. And, of course, you're welcome
to attend the 8 o'clock service.
Q. How do I know when to stand up?
A. Normally we stand to sing, we sit to listen. Those parts are easy.
For prayer, it's a little more complicated. Basically, any time a priest says
"The Lord be with you" we should be on our feet.
The Prayer Book (1979) is permissive about kneeling or
standing for the communion prayer, and we are inviting people to do what works
best for them. Some, in fact, will need to sit for prayers because of health
reasons. If you prefer to stand, please do. It does make it easier if those who
kneel for the prayers choose seats that are close to the front of the church;
that way there is less chance of blocking the view.
